$1 Billion Now in Hands of Ohio Employers

The BWC has now delivered most "Third Billion Back" rebate checks to eligible Ohio employers*.

BWC Administrator/CEO Sarah Morrison traveled throughout the state in July and early August to remind employers their checks were in the mail, and encourage them to invest their rebates in workplace safety.

Her last stop was Aug. 8 in Lawrence and Scioto Counties where business leaders shared how the rebates will benefit their communities.

If you haven’t received your rebate yet, please contact us by calling 1-800-644-6292. Most rebate recipients will receive Internal Revenue Service (IRS) 1099 tax documents. BWC will send 1099 forms no later than Jan. 31, 2018.

The checks are delivered, but there’s more to come. The second part of the plan – a $44 million investment in new health and safety initiatives – is just gearing up. Watch for more updates in upcoming editions of BWC eNews.

*Private employers participating in the Group Retro Program can expect to see their rebate checks in early fall.

Building a Safer Ohio

The BWC offers a range of programs and services to improve health and safety in the workplace. Now, you have access to a new tool that connects you to safety and security resources that will help you protect your staff, customers and communities in emergency situations.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety’s My Safer Ohio Business Clearinghouse is a web platform that connects businesses, law enforcement and public safety organizations. The site offers easy access to a variety of tools that will aid in the development of emergency training and plans. You’ll also find links to public safety organizations like Ohio Homeland Security and the Emergency Management Agency that can help you strengthen your emergency preparedness.

“We want every Ohio workplace to strive for a culture of safety,” said BWC Administrator/CEO Sarah Morrison. “That means taking steps not only to prevent accidents and injuries, but also to prepare for emergency situations and catastrophic events. The new business clearinghouse is a valuable tool that will help employers plan for the unexpected.”

The BWC is Looking For a Few Great Innovators

BWC is now accepting applications from Ohio employers for the 2018 Safety Innovation Awards. The award recognizes innovative solutions that reduce the risk of workplace injuries and illnesses in Ohio workplaces. The innovations must demonstrate a reduction in safety or ergonomic risk factors or in exposure to occupational health hazards.

The BWC is accepting applications until Sept. 30, 2017. Five finalists will receive cash awards, ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 and statewide recognition at the Ohio Safety Congress & Expo in Columbus March 7 to 9, 2018.

Eligibility requirements and application instructions are available on the Safety Innovation Awards web page.
