The Lake County Safety Council is proud to present the October program -- Hearing Conservation & OSHA Hearing Conservation Programs -- on Friday, October 16. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Walther Vieweg, DO, DPM, MA, Certified Professional Supervisor-Audiometry, Lake Health. Vieweg is an occupational medicine physician who is board certified in family practice and hold various certifications in the field of occupational medicine. His presentation will cover items including: ---preserving hearing to maintain quality of life ---the prevalence of occupational hearing loss ---how we hear -- a brief lesson in anatomy and physiology ---how noise damages the ear ---symptoms of hearing loss ---setting up a hearing conservation program Vieweg's special medical interests are occupational surveillance and injuries, hearing conservation and workplace drug testing. He is a certified medical review officer, a certified professional supervisor-audiometry and is certified by the national registry of certified medical examiners. Vieweg also will discuss: ---the types of noise monitoring ---the types of hearing protection ---permissible exposure levels ---administrative and engineering noise control ---the definition of a standard threshold shift ---and OSHA recordability and recordkeeping The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites LaMalfa, with registration beginning at 11:15 a.m. The cost of the event is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
