Back Pain and Safety Issues-How to Screen for Problems

The Lake County Safety Council is proud to host Dr. Nancy Rodway from Lake Health. She is board certified in occupational medicine/preventive medicine. She will be discussing "The Hard Facts About Back Pain" issues.

The discussion will include:

---What Causes Back Pain

---The Voodoo and Science of Treating Back Pain

---How to Prevent Back Pain

---How to Screen for Back Problems in the Workplace.

Dr. Rodway is an Akron native and a graduate of Ohio State University and the University of Pennsylvania.

She is the medical director of Lake Health Occupational Services

The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites LaMalfa, with registration beginning at 11:15 a.m.

The cost of the event is $20 for members and $25 for non-members, and reservations may be made online at the LCSC web site listed below.

Ohio Safety Congress - Calling for Presentations

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation is accepting proposals for educational presentations for the 2012 Ohio Safety Congress and Expo.

This annual event will take place April 9 to 11 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

The OSC13 offers access to thought provoking leaders, with experts and peers sharing best practices, and research and information to prevent injuries and lower workers' compensation costs.

The BWC invites companies to share their efforts to demonstrate and educate how safety innovations and proven techniques result in a safer, healthier workforce.

OSC13 features more than 150 educatonal presentations which offer continuing education credits for a variety of professions. Interested companies may be considered for a presentation that lasts one hour to six hours.

The event draws more than 5,000 Ohio business and governmental representatives and employees. These attendees include professionals in:

---Occupational Safety and Health

---Environmental Protection and Safety

---Workers' Compensation

---Claims Control and Management

---Risk Management

---Rehabilitation

---Human Resources

---Emergency Management Servies

---Law

---Wellness

The OSC13 theme will revolve around the simplicity of preventing occupational injuries and illnesses. The program committee will be looking for presentations which complement this theme, address new and current trends and incorporates creative learning strategies.

Presentations must be strictly educational, They CANNOT promote a sepcific business, products or service.

Companies that submit a proposal will be notified by October 13 if the program committee chooses them to present at OSC13. Selected applicants will not receive compensation for their services. However, they do receive full privileges to attend OSC13 and its sessions and exposition.

Selected applicants must agree to submit their presentation and handout materials by Friday, March 22. The BWC will review presentations for accreditation approval and may post handout materials to ohiobwc.com in read-only format.
