The steering committee for the Lake County Safety Council is proud to announce the December LCSC program ... Emerging Safety Technology - Virtual Design Construction (VDC) & Drone Safety Applications, with keynote speaker Scott Cole.

Cole will address technology related safety innovations and opportunities. He will include an overview of how technology is shaping the way safety and management personnel plan safety. The presentation will focus primarily on new construction applications, but it can be applied to all building design and renovations.

Cole works full time as a business unit environmental, health and safety director for Turner Construction Company. He holds a bachelor's degree in business management and administration from Kent State University and also holds various certificates from Ohio University, Ohio State University and Texas A&M University.

He will discuss new construction applications or re-design and renovation applications driven by Vitraul Design Construction technology, 4D modeling and advanced robotics for the workplace. He also will address how technology is impacting safety planning as it relates to worker safety education, access to control and risk reduction, fall prevention and end-user conflict resolution.

Cole has owned and operated Cole Safety Services for 12 years, helping industiral, government and construction clients with auditing, program development, training and on-site consultation. He volunteers on the board of directors as a delegate for the Northern Ohio Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals as well as the Lake County Safety Council.

LCSC programs will continue to be on the third Thursday of every month (unless otherwise noted) and will be organized in a luncheon format from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m..

BWC Library Question of the Month

A question received by the library over the past month with our response.

Question:

What does ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2014 Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment say about the temperature of flushing fluid for eyewash equipment? Are there specific temperatures for specific chemical exposures?

Answer:

ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2014 says that flushing fluid needs to be “tepid.” This is defined in the standard as between 60- and 100-degrees F (16 to 38 C). However, section 5.4.6. states that if a chemical reaction is accelerated by the flushing fluid temperature, then an assessment needs to be conducted by a safety advisor to determine the best temperature. Appendix B6: Delivered Flushing Fluid Temperature explains the rationale behind requiring flushing fluid temperature to be tepid, which includes preventing hypothermia and to lessen the interaction of chemicals with skin and eye tissue.

If you need help understanding emergency eyewashes, contact BWC’s Division of Safety and Hygiene. Consultation services are no cost for those with a BWC policy. Find out more on our website

If you have question related to occupational safety and health, email the library at library@bwc.state.oh.us.
